As the Miracle goes to press no baseball games have as yet been played; however, we are confident that the team will uphold the high standard of previous years with their usual brilliant display of teamwork, skill, and sportsmanship. The Naugatuck Valley League, the strongest of its kind in the state, is composed of such top teams as Ansonia, Naugatuck, Wilby, Crosby, Leavenworth, Torrington, and Gilbert. Besides several league encounters, Gilbert again will play many of the strong, independent high school teams in the state. A total of nineteen games are now scheduled. Under the able coaching of Carl Coleman and his assistant, ."Spud" Fecto, the Yellowjackets are forming a formidable barrier for their opponents in the Naugatuck Valley League. In the past, Gilbert baseball teams have flourished as strong, independent teams in the Valley League. It is now their hope that they will do so again. Our aim is that the caliber of Gilbert teams in the future will continue to remain as high as those of preceding years. Whether, though, they win or lose, we can always count on the Yellowjackets for their best and a good account of themselves. Although many worthy holdovers are available from last season's team,
Coach Coleman will have to fill vacancies from several eager tryouts
in order to put the team in top condition for this season, which opens
on April 12 at Farmington. |
