The Gilbert Football
Team, under the coaching of Roy Kent, made a commendable showing of
themselves this season.
The
1950 squad
began its season on September 16 with Lee. The first game was
a victory with a score of 6-0. The next game, scheduled with Enfield,
was cancelled because of polio
which affected the squad with the loss of a member, Curtis Case.
The
third game of the season with Junior Republic was also a victory with
a score of 13..,. The Gilbertonians were again
victorious when
they played Canton, with a score of 6-0. The game made the third consecutive
victory for the team.
To prepare for the next game with Seymour, we
had a Pep Rally. The object of the rally was to arouse the players
and student body since
this was to be the high point of the season. In spite of the facts
that Seymour had a larger team, that it had won the three preceding
games
it played,
and that our squad had to play on a strange field, the Gilbertonians
were still triumphant with a final score of 6-0.
For
the first time during the 1950 season the Gilbert players were defeated
by Farmington, 27-18,
The next-and second to the last-game with Lyman Hall
put the team on victory road again with a
score of 6-0.
To complete the schedule, the squad dropped a heartbreaker to East
Haven and were defeated 34-7.
The Gilbert Football Team fought hard, giving a good account of themselves,
and are looking forward to a very successful season next year.
