BASKETBALL TEAM-1952-1953

The: 1952-1953 Gilbert basketball team churned the hardwoods this season in such a fashion as to compile the best record, 15-3, in over decade. The Yellowjackets took just about every team in stride and wound up rated 3rd in the state.

The Gilbert quintet started the season by dubbing Alumni 56-49. Middletown and Seymour tasted the same sting by respective 53-42 and 55-49 dubbings, after Torrington had dealt Gilbert their first loss 61-35.

Then Gilbert picked up double wins over Regional Coodwin Tech, and Windsor as well as knocking off Middlettown and Seymour forthe second time. Sacred Heart and Plainville fell under the rampaging Yellow jackets by 58-47 and 66-63 scores to help along an eight game Blue and Gold winnlng streak.Searles snapped this streak with an upset 62-56 victory but the Nicholsmen copped their last four in a row to maintain the 15-3 record.
