On June 11th sportsmen from the Gilbert classes 1948 thru 1955 gathered at the Old Newgate Coon Club in Norfolk for a reunion with Coach Roy Kent. Coach Kent was the boys physical ed instructor, advisor to the varsity club and football coach at Gilbert from 1947 thru 1952. The club was draped with 6 ft. banners made by Chris Jauch, class of '49,picturing all the former football, basketball and baseball players from this era in addition to varsity sweaters, a vintage 1949 Gilbert football helmet belonging to Jack Bell and miniature characters depicting the three sports.

Speakers included former Gilbert Principal and baseball coach "Spud" Fecto, Citizen sports writer Bob McCarthy, John Hayes class of '48, Don Bleuher and George DeMars class of '50, Jack Perry class of '53, Bill Hutton, Roger Jones and Jack Bell class of '49.

Bill Hutton presented Coach Kent with a copy of "Bleachers" autographed by the author, John Grisham. Roger Jones read a made the presentation of a plaque etched with a poem written by Milly Hudak in honor of Coach Kent and his years at Gilbert.

Coach Kent related his memories of the years he spent at Gilbert, the strengths and skills of his players, game highlights and the importance of maintaining trust, confidence, ability and character.

The Friday sports celebration continued on Sunday with a luncheon for the sportsmen, classmates from 1949, their spouses and guests held at the Winchester Historical Society on Prospect St .  The Annual Winsted Laurel Parade was viewed from the lawn of the Historical Society following this luncheon.

This event was a time of reminiscing with a Coach the "boys" hold a high regard for and continue to respect. Plans have been made for future visits and continued contact.
