Memories Light the Corners of Our Minds

In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the HLWA, we’re creating “Highland Lake Reflections,” a book of individual stories written by people who know and love Highland Lake--a book that captures the spirit of the lake through the memories of the storytellers. This book, once completed, will be available for purchase from HLWA.

Everyone has a story to tell, so please tell us your story for this special publication. Tell us about:

  • boating, fishing, sailing, waterskiing, swimming
    family reunions and celebrations
    campfires, s’mores and songs
    seasonal stories
wildlife at your door or dock
times in the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, right up to the present
    neighborhood gatherings
    summer rituals
places like Toto’s, Gert & Carl’s, Bruno’s, Woodland Park, the Pavilion, etc.
the ski clubs and sailing club
people who have come and gone
any other special memories or funny stories

Please share this information with your family and friends. We want to have photos with your stories and throughout the book, so please submit them, as well as maps, postcards, drawings, etc., with your story. They will be scanned and returned to you in a timely fashion. Also, if you would prefer to be interviewed for your story rather than write it yourself, you can arrange for a friend or relative to do that; or we’d be happy to meet with you to record your thoughts and memories and write them up for the book. If you’d like one of our committee members to meet with you, please contact Shirley Allshouse and she’ll arrange it.

Kindly submit your stories and photos to Project Chairman:
