Since
leaving Gilbert many of our athletes have gone on to pursue interesting
and rewarding careers. We will be preparing brief narratives regarding
their accomplishments since graduation. We would appreciate your
help in our endeavor to complete these pages by forwarding interesting
facts about your life since Gilbert and e mail us at mail@1949class.com.
Please consider sharing any information on other team mates,
and a means by which we may reach them, so that they might be
included also. |

| Rich, better know as "Hugo" during his Gilbert years, graduated in 1953. He, and his older brother Warren (1950), played all 3 sports, Football, Basketball, and Baseball. Rich was also in the Ski Club, Varsity Club and Hi-Y. His interest in writing and talent in art work were evident as he was a member of the News and Miracle Boards, Sports Editor and Art editor. | |
March 18, 2005 - Recently we received word of the passing of Moe Coury. Very few Gilbert alumni from the classes of 1950 thru 1954 would forget the determination and drive this young lad had during those years. His efforts on the football field are etched in the minds of all who played with him or against him. Those who attended the games he played in have memories of a guy who never quit, never said no, never gave up.
On June 11th of this past year a sports banquet was held in Winsted. In attendance were past players of football, baseball and basketball from Gilbert during the years 1948 thru 1955. MOE WAS THERE!! Driving to CT from Florida was not an easy trip for Moe as his health was failing, however, as he said "He would not have missed it for the world" and re-lived that evening every day since. Moe received a standing ovation that evening.
The sports committee is thankful for organizing such a wonderful reunion of these sports men and for the opportunity to reunite Moe with the Coach he and so many others revered as one who gave them the fundamentals of sportsmanship that helped them to become the respected men they are today. This man, Coach Roy Kent, was there to stand and applaud Moe on June 11th.
We extend our sympathies to Pauline Coury, his wife, and to his daughter, Brigitte De'Lancy.
